Who is responsible
digitaltable is run by Mixolydian Studios, which decides what this site records and why. Under data protection law that makes Mixolydian Studios the controller of the personal data described here.
Questions, requests and complaints about any of it go to james@mixolydianstudios.com.
02
Who may play
Tables are for people aged 15 and over. If you are younger, ask a parent or guardian before you choose a nickname or open a table. We do not knowingly hold data from anyone under 15, and remove it if we learn we have.
03
What is recorded
There is no account on this site: no email address, no password, no date of birth, no payment card. What exists is the following.
- A browser id
- A random string, made in your browser the first time you open the site and kept in local storage. It lets the server recognise your seat and reconnect you after a dropped connection. It is not a name and cannot be traced to one.
- Your nickname
- Saved in your browser and sent to the server when you join a table, so the people across from you know who they are playing.
- Your last table
- The id of the game you were last in, also in local storage, so a game page can offer to take you back.
- Table records
- The table's name and code, whether it is public or shared by link, the players seated, their seat choices and ready state, and when it was created and last changed.
- Game records
- The moves of each game, written to a journal on the server, and the game state those moves produce. This is what lets a game be restored, reviewed and replayed.
- Chat messages
- Messages sent at a table, with the sender's nickname, held in the server's memory for as long as the process runs. A table keeps its most recent hundred messages.
- Connection data
- As with any website, the server sees the IP address and browser string of the device that connects, so it can deliver pages and sockets and keep the service healthy.
04
Why it is used
Each use rests on one legal basis.
- To seat you, run the table and keep every player in step
- To provide the service
- To reconnect you to a game and restore it after a drop
- Legitimate interest
- To keep the journal and game state that make review and replay possible
- Legitimate interest
- To keep chat civil and the service safe
- Legitimate interest
- To answer a message you send us
- Consent
- To meet a legal or regulatory duty
- Legal obligation
05
Who sees it
Your nickname, seat, moves and chat are visible to the other players at your table. A public table's details show on the games page. Our hosting provider holds the server's files on our behalf.
Beyond that we do not sell data, run advertising or install analytics trackers, and we do not hand records to anyone else unless the law requires it.
06
How long it stays
- Browser id, nickname, last table
- In your browser until you clear its storage.
- Table records
- Deleted 24 hours after a table is opened, or sooner when the last player leaves.
- Game journal and state
- On the server's data volume until the game is removed, or until you ask us to remove it.
- Chat
- Only in server memory; cleared whenever the process restarts.
- Connection logs
- Kept briefly for operations and security, then discarded.
07
Security
Traffic to the site is encrypted in transit, and server files sit on a private volume. There is no password to leak because there are no accounts. The one thing worth watching is your nickname, which the other players at your table can read, so keep personal details out of it.
08
Your rights
Data protection law gives you the right to:
- be told what is held about you, and receive a copy of it;
- have wrong or incomplete data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- have its use restricted, or object to it;
- move it to another service in a portable form;
- withdraw any consent you gave.
The site is built around a browser id rather than an account, so tell us that id, or the nickname and table code you used, and we can find the right records.
09
Asking us
Send any request or question to james@mixolydianstudios.com. We answer within one month, and will say so if a complex request needs a little longer. If you believe we have handled your data badly, you may complain to the data protection authority where you live.
10
Changes
This policy is dated at the top and changes when the site does. If a change matters, we will say so here rather than quietly rewrite it.
